This survey was intended to identify common practices and choices
that are currently being used by academic libraries to catalog and
manage electronic journals. In spite of the proliferation of access to
electronic journals through numerous packages and collections, all
of the respondents stated that they are cataloging electronic journals.
Electronic journals generate time-consuming and complex workloads.
Additionally, libraries want to provide their end users with
records that are easy to locate, use and are current. Both single and
separate records are viewed as the best means to this end. The
separate and mixed record cataloging approaches more easily
support the use of vendor-supplied records and updates
