Fig. 10 shows typical mechanical properties of weldments with
and without activating fluxes. The test results of the mechanical
properties showed that the maximum tensile strength and hardness
of a welded joint with MgCO3 flux aided GMAW were
30.8 kgf/mm2 and 177.3 Hv, respectively. Besides, in the case of
the other activating fluxes, i.e. Fe2O3 and SiO2, the mechanical
properties (including strength and hardness) of the weld zone also
improved, compared to GMAW without flux.
