Everyday design has several distinct characteristics. First, artifacts used in everyday design have already been professionally designed. So, in everyday design, artifacts are not used as creative material but rather are repurposed to perform new functions. For example, Figure 1 is showing us the wire binding of a table calendar that has been repurposed to hold a USB cable. In contrast, in professional design, the designer designs the artifact by utilizing raw material, such as the rubber material on the left-hand side of Figure 1, to create a new product.
