Its no secret that Rogue is one of the many fan favourites. Whether its for feisty personality, her lovely Southern accent or her mutant 'curse' which made it impossible for her to have physical contact and up til recently was the character's defining trait. My first exposure to Rogue, like a lot of people, was the 90s X-men animated series which aired on Fox Kids. And while I liked her there, I always thought she was unusually peppy for someone who couldn't even shake hands with other people.
Having watched both X-men Evolution and the Brian Singer Trilogy, I came to realise I actually liked their interpretations of Rogue more and felt that they made more sense. Rogue's mutant power IS a curse, there's no exaggerating that. Seriously, wouldn't you be a tad grouchy if your powers ended up putting your first crush in the hospital when they first manifested. I've heard Evo Rogue criticized for not having her super strength and flight powers, but she was still a competent fighter so that didn't bother me too much and they weren't her original powers anyway (they were stolen from Carol Danvers). Now Movie Rogue I can understand the dislike a little more since she didn't do a whole lot, but again consider the character's background; her first use of her powers saw her almost kill someone she liked. In fact, that's one of the first scenes in the movie. Add in that Magneto tried to use her to mutate/murder dozens of people and you can see why she's be reluctant to use her powers. This might make her less fun, but it is more realistic.
So what do you guys think? Is Rogue's portrayal in the movies more real or do you prefer her like she was portrayed in the comics?
