TRAFCORD lawyers will advocate for full protection of the victim’s rights under the law. Once the rescued victims are safely in the shelter, TRAFCORD lawyers will provide them with legal counselling. They will explain the situation to the victims and advice them on what is in their best interests. The needs and wishes of the victim will always come first and TRAFCORD will not push a victim to testify in court if it is not in their own best long term interests and future safety. Once a victim has agreed to testify in court, then TRAFCORD lawyers will prepare them for their court appearance. This involves raising their confidence and helping them to make clear testimony. There will be role playing exercises simulating a court setting in order to familiarise victims on who is who and how the hearing will proceed. Witness protection will always be high on the agenda and lawyers will advocate for use of the separate child witness interview rooms with televised links to the main court room in order to protect the victim from having to face their abusers and preventing re-traumatization as well as ensuring better testimony. TRAFCORD will also provide extra security guards at shelters for victims where there are particular concerns for witness protection.
