Seminar Evaluation
Speaker: Natthagrittha
Topic: Stopping sound with foam
Abstract: Too many technical details—just advertise your talk without getting into such specifics
Talk---total time 14 minutes (on time)
Strong points:
• Interesting and unusual choice of topic
• Good outline and introduction—metamaterials defined clearly and the basics of the experiment were covered nicely
• The results, though difficult to understand in detail, were presented well, with a proper emphasis on the main point (the sharp peak in the absorption spectrum)
• Well-prepared talk: organization, timing, delivery were all nicely polished.
Weak points:
• The topic was simple enough for the speaker to provide extra insight: why do bubbles get bigger with time? What is the reason for the sharp absorption peak?
• The Q&A showed some gaps in knowledge
• Take the time to explain the theory result—how is the theory model similar to the real system (the foam), and how is it different?
Overall:
The topic was interesting and the talk was quite effective. Clear speaking style, good organization, nice graphics made for an enjoyable presentation. The physics content was slim—try to explain the key physics concepts sufficiently (especially in this case, where there was a single, simple, main point)
