The speed at which athletes perform their routines is so
high that it is basically impossible for the judge to detect every
necessary detail (Salmela, 1978a, 1978b). Still, the judge does not
have much time to announce the final score. In such a situation, we
suggest, the judge uses information about the previously evaluated
athlete to make a target judgment by comparing the two gymnasts
with each other.
