Mental health nursing has been
slow to adopt the development of
nurse prescribing in mental health care
(Gray et al, 2005; Jones et al, 2007), but
there is scope for nurses to work with
service users with mental health distress
by understanding their experiences and
then working collaboratively with them in
order to address concerns related to their
medicine use. Hemingway and Snowden
(2012) argued that the key to helping
service users is to align their treatment to
their beliefs about health; this article offers
some strategies for nurses to engage with
service users with mental health issues.
