Bender et al.31 found that adherence to a daily controller medication was generally below the prescribed level, despite the fact that many participants suffered from severe asthma and frequent symptoms. Patients with higher judgment skills in this study reported better compliance with this medication. This might indicate a better communication with health care providers.
