Sjögren’s Syndrome (SS) is the most common autoimmune disease characterized
by inflammation of the exocrine glands and may occur independently (as primary
Sjögren’s syndrome or Sycca syndrome limited to the eyes and mouth, SS-1
) or in association with other autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis,
systemic sclerosis or systemic lupus erythematosus (secondary Sjögren’s syndrome
that affets connective tissue, SS-2). The prevalence of Sjögren’s syndrome is 1% to
4% in older adults and is more common in postmenopausal women
