New Goals for Students
In the introduction to the Curriculum Standards, five important educational goals are described for all students, not just those few who traditionally gravitate toward mathematics. These goals state that all students should
1. Learn to value mathematics
2. Become confident in their ability to do mathematics
3. Become mathematical problem solvers
4. Learn to communicate mathematics
5. Learn to reason mathematically
As you will see, these goals are intricately bound together in the process of doing mathematics. All can and will be addressed within a classroom reflecting a true mathematical environment.
