Parent involvement has been shown to be beneficial for high school students; it is associated with higher grades, higher aspirations, and fewer disciplinary problems. Despite its benefits, little is known about the factors that influence high school students' parents to become involved. The Hoover Dempsey and Sandler model predicts that four psychological constructs are related to parent involvement: parents' role construction, sell-efficacy, perceptions of teacher invitations to become involved, and perceptions of student invitations. No one has tested the constructs in this model for predicting parent involvement across different secondary grade level.
