This study shows that there are marked dierences in
the phenolic profiles of berries commonly consumed in
Finland. However, some similarities can be seen within
families and genera. The results obtained with lyophi-lized samples of berries suggest that the highest levels of
flavonols, especially quercetin, are found in blueberries,
cranberry, lingonberry, chokeberry and crowberry, and
the highest levels of ellagic acid in cloudberry, Arctic
bramble, red raspberry and strawberry. The concentrations of the flavonols and ellagic acid in fresh berries
and in berry products are under investigation.
