Open a juice factory to manufacture a variety of juice drink products made from fruits and vegetables. Many retail outlets including grocery and specialty food stores carry juice drinks. Operating a juice factory requires patience, planning and the ability to grow and expand as the market demands. Build a successful business by starting and operating an efficient juice factory that employs those who have the same dedication you have to creating a profitable business.
Step 1
Register your juice factory business with the secretary of state's office and county clerk's office. Apply for an Employer Identification Number (EIN). Use the EIN on all business-related documents and paperwork to identify your business. Apply for a sales tax number through your state's Department of Revenue (see Resources) to collect sales tax from customers.
Step 2
Contact the Department of Health in your state (see Resources) to determine the types of licenses needed to open a factory. In Texas, for example, contact the Texas Department of Health Services as you may need to apply for food manufacturer, food warehouse operator and food wholesaler licenses. Inquire about inspection procedures and requirements to ensure your factory operates within the legal parameters created by state health agencies. Contact the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for safety guidelines and requirements for operating a factory and warehouse.
Step 3
Determine the types of products to sell including juice flavors, sports drinks and specialty drinks such as health drinks or children's drinks. Determine your target markets and the types of retail outlets where those markets shop. Retail outlets typically include specialty food stores, national grocery store chains, gas stations, health food stores, vending machines and outdoor venues such as sports and theme parks. Test juice flavors and create packaging to attract customers.
Step 4
Lease or purchase factory property. Choose a space large enough to create product receiving, production, packaging, shipping and storage areas. The space should safely house equipment, allow employees to move about freely and include bathroom facilities and break room area. Contact a commercial real estate agent to help find adequate factory space.
Step 5
Set up the juice factory. Designate an area to receive juice product supplies and materials and an area to store product back stock, supplies and materials. Build an assembly line for making, filling and shipping juice products. An efficient assembly line reduces costs and shortens production times. Hire employees to work in different areas within the warehouse. Install inventory software to track juice-making materials and supplies and juice product shipments. Create a bar code system for storage bins for easy storage and retrieval. Use bar code scanners to track inventory.
Step 6
Arrange meetings with grocery and retail outlet buyers to sample juice products. Create a website to sell juice products directly to customers. Lease mall kiosks, booths at trade shows, fairs and sporting events and host promotional giveaway events to promote your juice products.
