Once upon a time, I really loved this quote. Why on Earth should I go above and beyond in a relationship if the other person doesn’t even do the same for me? Recently, I realized that I’ve had this mindset that if I’m not being treated a certain way, then why would anyone else deserve to be treated the way I want to be treated? Why should I forgive others if they don’t even want to forgive me? Why do I always have to be the “bigger person” and apologize? Why do I need to be the one to love and respect them even though they don’t show the same kind of love and respect toward me? Why do I need to obey their authority if they can’t respect me? Why should I do nice things for them even when they treat me horrible? Why should I “cross the ocean” and do these things if they can’t even do it for me?
