Log Barge
Cargo barges purpose-built for transporting logs long distances on the Columbia River or along the Pacific Coast to port facilities. Logs are loaded using a log loader at an intermodal “reload yard,” located at a port dock—then off-loaded at another intermodal port facility. Special barges also can transport wood chips. Barges are “towed” (pushed or pulled) by a powerful diesel tugboat, which is the most fuel-efficient means of log transport.
