Zappos has managed ethical risk through its humility as a company. When Zappos launched their “more than shoes” campaign, it was not received well from the public. Because it was considered a little too sexual, Zappos showed humility by apologizing and pulling the ads. Zappos has also managed ethical risk by its incredible transparency. Although transparency can be considered a good attribute, it can also be considered a bad one. “Outsiders” will continue to challenge Zappos as a good company to work for. Many people cannot believe that such a company exists and it’s telling you exactly how they are doing it. Taube jokes, “Zappos' manager-less new organizational structure is so complex that even its biggest proponents seem to disagree about how it actually works”. Currently Zappos holacracy has been documented thoroughly for all those who want to know how it works, but I would not assume that observers would still have negative and even joking remarks about Zappos and they way they do things. This will definitely been an ongoing conversation for a long time.
