How a team behaves and what it achieves is a result of the collective behaviour
of its members. It may be difficult to understand how a team works in detail.
However, it can be helpful to think of a team as an amalgam of the personalities,
abilities, values, motivations, loyalties and commitment of all members, together
with the pressures and constraints placed on them by their task and
organisational environments. People and groups acting outside the team play a
part in shaping how the team and its members behave. Not surprisingly, effective
teamwork faces many challenges.
