I am afraid that you are missing the point.
Please see data sheet of Rust Veto344 I down load from internet. It is clear that the nature of this coating will be soft and not hard as the usual epoxy coating , so I do not think it is possible to measure in dry film thickness like usual paint because whenever you point the probe down , thickness of
the coating will be lower and make the measurement not reliable. And it is
also not possible to measure in wet film in order to expect the dry film thickness like usual epoxy paint. ( please understand that wet film thickness is not the direct measure of the thickness but it is measured under the expectation by using the fact from % solid content and nature of the paint to predict whether dry film thickness of dry coating will be met as shown in wet film measure guage or not. )
From my understanding , 0.003" or 76.2 micron ( or approx. 0.08 mm ) thick stated in Rust Veto 344 is just the expected thickness after dipping process , not from brushing or spraying and this is totally different from dry film thickness of usual epoxy paint. And due to its soft nature of the coating , I am afraid that it is not possible to apply very thick film for the
vertical surface because it will droop down by gravity . So I am afraid
that it is not possible to get dry film thickness report per your request and it is not possible to get a very clear report to show that thickness for every point will be not less than 76.2 micron as stated in data sheet and you can use this report to claim from coating supplier if rust happen after storage for 12 months.
It is widely known and you can see from the last clause of the attached data sheet that there is no warranty can be given whether the coating will be effective in protect corrosion very long or not because it depends on how proper of the storage. If HUK is to load rotor on board and let this coated rotor subject to sea water moisture for weeks during shipping , it will make the coated surface facing severe condition like salt spray test, and you can see from the data sheet that in such case , the coating may withstand not
longer than 30 days.
I fully hope that the above will be clear and HUK will give consideration in waiving this request and give full support to help VIPCO finish this job smoothly.
