Defining Moral Courage
In this chapter we use the term moral courage as a synonym for civil courage (see Greitemeyer,Osswald,Fischer,2007). Both terms refer to the German word Zivilcourage Moral courage is a prosocial behavior with high social costs and no (or rare) direct rewards for the actor (e.g.,Bierhoff,2002). In situations that demand a morally courageous intervention,instance of injustice happen,human rights are violated,persons are treated unfairly and in a degrading manner,or nature and cultural assets are in danger;these situations are about
