Cultivars of guinea grass: Panicum maximum cv
Gatton; is a variety of medium height grass originally
from Zimbabwe (Humphreys and Patridge, 1995). It has
darker green leaves and smooth stem nodes. It
establishes more rapidly than the green panic with good
first season yields and is easier to manage than the tall
guinea grasses. O’Reilly (1975) described green panic
(panicum var trichglume) cv Petrie as a native of Africa.
It is also a tall, tufted, summer growing perennial. Green
