2.3.1. Recruitment
In a first attempt, from January to May 2010, participants in the
questionnaire study were recruited through an employer who
supplied a list of 84 names and telephone numbers of staff of three
family-type restaurants. Of the 84, 68 could not be reached (invalid
phone number/impossible to arrange a meeting/no response after
attempts at different times of the day over a period of three
months), nine no longer worked as food servers and one refused to
answer the questionnaire. The remaining six answered the questionnaire.
A union representative from a hotel restaurant supplied
us with the names and phone numbers of nine food servers; five of
these answered the questionnaire, but the others either could not
be reached at the number given or could not arrange an
appointment.
