Many ex-players turn their back on soccer entirely, some attend coaching courses to remain in the game, helped by their professional associations. He may take an assistant coaching job with a previous big club or go into club management himself, first with a lower league club and if successful and wise, he can begin to work his way up to higher leagues. There is a danger that as he experienced success at the top as a player, he may find difficulty in gaining stimulation and motivation with the lower league clubs he manages.
