To the best of our knowledge, this is the first control–impact study
replicated at wetland level to assess impact of non-native carp and
tilapia species on native fish communities. By quantifying abundance
(biomass) of the native and non-native species in addition to
structural aspects of the native communities (richness, diversity
indices, and trophic guild composition), the study demonstrated that
non-native species raised total biomass substantially without measurably
displacing native species.
