Familiarity with distribution of scoresIt is important in the design stage of clinical trials that the investigators involved in protocoldevelopment should have an idea of the distribution of QoL scores at baseline and the possiblemagnitude of changes over time in the particular group of patients under study. This enablesdevelopment of realistic hypotheses. Information about the expected scores is also valuable whenanalysing and reporting the results of the trial. Knowledge about the distribution of the QLQ-C30scores will develop as we become more familiar with it, and as more reference data becomeavailable. Possibly, a qualitative descriptive system could be developed for each of the scales (suchas “good”, “moderate” and “poor”), to describe patients‟ position relative to „normal‟ values.
