It is important to recognize that the four types of MCS-strategy studies comprising our framework are presented only as archetypes. There are still likely to be inconsistencies in the conceptualization of constructs within quadrants, but the quadrants represent broad similarities between studies, and a basis for their comparison. Moreover, we should expect that the boundaries between the types of study depicted in Figure I will be permeable as some value judgments are required in locating the studies within the framework. Nevertheless, our classificatory framework can be valuable for conceptualizing the predominant scope of studies, and provides insights into our knowledge of the MCS-strategy relationship (or relationships).
