Results and discussionNatural-derived hydrogels, such as those from κC and LBG, are promising materials for wound dressings due to their ability to remain wet at the wound site, biocompatibility and non-toxicity. By adding a proper dye, the obtained polysaccharide-hydrogel could be further used for monitoring the pH at the wound site. For the initial study, we in- vestigated the total anthocyanin content (TAC) in the CB extract powder by using the pH differential method. The TAC value found in the CB extract powder, expressed as cyaniding-3-glucoside equivalents, was ca. 104.5 mg g−1. Next, UV–vis analyses were performed using a buffer solution with a pH range of 4.0 to 9.0 to investigate the effect of pH change on anthocyanin colors present in the CB extract powder. The results are shown in Fig. 1.
