The spectra obtained for diatomic molecules generated in air/
acetylene or nitrous oxide/acetylene flames present fine-structured bands with widths comparable to those of atomic lines [6]. The literature
has reported the evaluation of NO and PO bands for the determination
of N [7–10] and P [11–14] in different matrices including water
samples [7–9], silicon wafer etching solutions [10], cast iron [11], bio-
logical samples [12], potassium phosphite [13], and medicinal plants
[14]. Nevertheless, the few papers concerning N determination have
focused on the generation and detection of NO molecules inside electrothermal
atomizers [7–10]
