Imagine a burp so loud it brings you to your knees, followed by a snore that rattles the rafters. Combine them and you have the typical bellow of a koala. “It’s so loud that campers cpmplain about koalas keeping them up all night” say Deborah Tabart, head of the Australian Koala Foundation. Why so noisy ? Male Koalas grunt with gusto to broadcast their whereabouts to distant females or to scare rivals.
