All 46 women (100 %) responding to the questionnaire
found the class beneficial. They particularly valued access
to a knowledgeable health care professional, evidencebased
information, specific advice regarding aspects
of risk reduction and how to manage BCRL should it
develop, the opportunity to share knowledge and experiences
with other women in the same situation. They
firmly believed their increased knowledge helped to prevent
or minimise problems, supported their return to
active daily life, and provided a strategy for self-management
of risk and any subsequent BCRL. Only five women
(11 %) reported both benefit from increased knowledge
and alarm from heightened awareness. Forty-five women
(98 %) recommended similar sessions and information
be made available to everyone undergoing breast cancer
