Transjakarta Bus Rapid Transit Management Authority (BLU) chief Muhammad Akbar previously said that fewer passengers had used its services last year, blaming worsening traffic congestion in the capital.
He acknowledged that there had been a steady decrease in the number of passengers using Transjakarta since the middle of last year.
Akbar added that as of November last year, the total distance covered by the buses was 1 million kilometers shorter than that during the same period in 2011.
He said, however, that the BLU had prepared several strategies to improve its services this year.
“We will improve our fleet this year by adding dozens of new buses. In addition, we will also cooperate further with the police and Jakarta Transportation Agency regarding the dedicated bus lanes,” he said.
This year, corridors 1 and 8 (Lebak Bulus to Harmoni) will receive 66 new articulated buses, and another 36 buses will run on the new Corridor 12 (Tanjung Priok to Pluit via Mangga Dua in the north of the city), which is expected to open next week.
In addition, Akbar said that the city would also have more gas stations so the buses would have more opportunities to refuel.
