Bangkok Airways and Koh Samui tourism operators are cooperating to draw visitors during the low season, with the former slashing all-inclusive round-trip fares for flights from various Thai cities to the island by roughly a third. Hotels on Samui are also discounting their room rates by some 50% to stimulate demand from September to November this year, the promotional period. This is a joint effort that SET-listed Bangkok Airways hopes will help it sell 30,000 tickets while enabling hotels to raise their occupancy rates by 20 percentage points from around 40-50%. The campaign is focused on Thai travelers as foreign tourist numbers dwindle in the low season. The main strategy of the campaign is lower prices, said industry executives. Samui faces an accommodation glut as inventory last year soared to more , said Seni Puwasetthawon, president of the Tourism Association of Koh Samui. The discounted air fares were offered at the Tah Tiew Thai Pai Samui fair held on Sept 16-18 at Siam Paragon, and later on Bangkok Airways' website and at travel agencies from Sept 19-22. The all-inclusive fares on Bangkok-Samui, Samui-Chiang Mai and Samui-Phuket routes start from 3,360 baht, while for Samui-Krabi and Samui-Pattayathey start from 3,310 baht.
