Social technologies such as online social networks provide
remarkable opportunity to improve health behaviour for individuals. However, the designs need to move beyond sharing of logs entries and commenting on the log entries. The VivoSpace field
study showed that the commenting feature was under utilized
because the posts failed to provide enough interest to the users.
Interest can be added to the post by having the system provide
interpretation of the post by: linking to the user’s goals; linking
to the gaming features; and interpreting the healthiness of the
post. Additionally, further appeal can be provided to the post by
allowing the user to add photos, status updates, external links
and recipes to the post.
