Okay but really if we’re going to talk about woman empowering movies the Shrek series should be number one. I know what you’re thinking “but Fiona had to be rescued.” The whole series is a parody of fairytales. Fiona knows self-defense, she handles her self she’s just trying to fall into social norms of a princess to break the spell. By the 2nd movie you really see what an independent woman she is and how she speaks her mind. What really impressed me was the third movie though. Fiona and the princesses were in jail and thinking of a plan to escape. The princesses got into their “time to be rescued” position but Fiona said that they shouldn’t wait to be rescued that they have to do it on their own and there’s a great part where they break out and save Shrek from being killed. It’s a great turn of events because Shrek is so happy that SHE saved HIM. He doesn’t care about her being a woman. It was a reverse fairy tale; the princess rescues the guy. In the fourth movie it’s like and alternate universe and Fiona is the leader of an ogre revolution. Shrek shows that woman are capable of anything.
