Often a customer will complain of a transmission noise,
which in reality is caused by something in the driveline
and not the transmission or torque converter. Bad CV or
U-joints, wheel bearings, brake calipers, and dragging
brake pads can generate noises that customers and,
unfortunately, some technicians, mistakenly blame on the
transmission or torque converter. The entire driveline
should be checked before assuming the noise is
transmission related.
