Degeneration of this part of the root
system wastes the plant resources invested in its growth. However,
irrigation of bell peppers via two drip lines located 20 cm from the
plant row, from day 17 after planting approximately doubled the
root-zone volume, and led to a somewhat smaller canopy, somewhat
higher yield, and significantly lower incidence of blossom end
rot (BER) as compared with continuous irrigation via a single drip
line attached to the crop row (Friedman et al., 2008).
