Section 1030(a)(5) is perhaps the most widely used section of CFAA, for it covers hacking and malicious code such as viruses and worms that do or attempt to cause damage to protected computers. In essence, it is a crime to cause damage or attempt to cause damage to a computer which would result in financial losses of more then $5000, loss or alteration of medical data, physical injury to a person, a threat to public health safety, or affect administration of justice, national defense, or national security.
