4. Conclusions
The use of hydrolyzed collagen as a dyebath additive has enhanced the color intensity of wool samples dyed with reactive and acid dyes. In general, the dyeing with the complete fraction, at pH 4.5 using the 90:10 water:collagen proportion has resulted in
the best results. The synergistic effect of the hydrolyzed collagen was clearly evident and there were no adverse effects on the fastness properties. This novel dyeing process has enhanced the dye uptake and in turn a reduction of the chemical load in the effluents, eventually contributing toward the “greening” of the existing wool
dyeing process.
