This consideration applies(Table 5) also to cadmium and lead. Importantly, the cadmium sent to landfill from the sorting and recycling chain increases from 8.9% to 25.1% when the source separation level increases from 35% to 65% and, correspondingly, the lead sent to landfill from the sorting and recycling chain increases from 5.5% to 14.5%. There is also a similar increase in the amount of these toxic substances the totality of recycled products, as a direct consequence of the larger amounts of waste that are sent to the recycling chain.
