Some differences were very large. For instance, order
of magnitude differences in both the generation amount and percentage
composition were found among Suzhou and the Mekong
Delta of Vietnam. The differences in HHW yield among various
regions can be explained in several ways. First, the high rate of
HHW generation may stem from Chinese consumers’ wasteful
behavior (Wei, 2012). Many leftover products (unused) were found
during the survey period, contributing approximately 10% to PC, far
more than the assumption of less than 5% made by Delgado et al.
(2007). Secondly, most ‘‘Made in China’’ products consumed in
Suzhou were contributed higher than expected levels of hazardous
substances to PC (Zhao, 2009).
