Another cave. Great.
I arrive at Dimhollow Crypt, as that Vigilant guy I met in the Dawnguard fort told me to do.
Nothing stands out once I enter the cave. Seems like a regular cave to me. I wonder why was that man so interested in it.
As soon as I detect life inside the cave, I crouch and grab my bow.
Screw the crossbow Isran gave me, I’ll stay with bows as long as I can.
I aim at what seems to be a dog but as I take a closer look, I realize it’s diferent from regular dogs I’ve seen so far; they have dog-like form but they are more... dead-like.
Anyway, I hold my breath and fire my arrow. It hits on it’s face, killing it rightaway.
Damn I’m good.
I do the same with the remaining vampires and I continue through the cave.
---(Putting a time skip ‘cause I suck at action scenes and Dimhollow has a lot of enemies)---
After spilling some more vampire blood, I find myself in front of an altar with a button in the middle.
“Oh, this is never good.” I say to myself “I bet some weird crap is going to jump at me if I push that thing.”
But, unfortunately, I’m gonna have to push it one way or another. I didn’t came this long for nothing.
I put my hand on the top of the button and press it.
I hate it when I’m right.
A blade rocketed out of the button, slicing my hand. I fall to my knees, grimacing in pain. Finally, the blade comes out and I retrieve my bleeding hand.
I look at the floor, seeing some weird purple markings that weren’t there before. The markings also led to some silver braziers.
Oh I get it now. Puzzles.
Ugh.
I start pushing the braziers until all markings are connected. Then, the floor starts to tremble.
In the middle of the room, a sarcophagus of stone elevates. I approach it carefully and touch it. As I do that, it opens and I see a woman inside, with her arms crossed in front of her chest.
As I intend to get closer, she falls. I instinctively hold her so she wouldn’t hit the floor.
“Whoa whoa” I say “You okay?”
She opens her eyes slowly and looks up at me. Her eyes have a very gold-like color and I have only seen that color in one type of creature.
Vampires.
She pushes me away (probably from the shock) and brushes some hair out of her face. Only now I see her completely.
She’s tall and slim. Her hair black and silky with two braids at the top.
She also shows typical signs of vampirism: pale skin and golden eyes.
The first thing that comes to my mind is how gorgeous she is.
I brush the though away. ‘Control yourself Kila. You are a married woman’
But, married and all, damnation. She was quite beautiful.
"Where is… who sent you here?" she started
I give her a confused look. "Who were you expecting?"
"I was expecting… someone like me at least."
"You're a-"
“Vampire, yes” she cuts me off.
Well, I’ll be damned.
"The Dawnguard would want me to kill you." I say
"Well, not to fond of Vampires, are they? Well look, kill me and you killed one vampire. If people are after, there is something bigger going on. I can help you find out what that is."
"Where do you need to go?"
"My family used to live on an island west of Solitude, guess they still do. By the way, my name is Serana, good to meet you."
“Kila, good to meet you too.” I reply and she smiles lightly. " Any idea on how to get out of here?" I add
"Your guess is as good as mine. This place looks a little different since the time I was locked away."
Normally, I wouldn’t really mind over someone I just found. But this “Serana” is an intriguing woman. So, I’m compelled to ask all my doubts.
I glance at her back and I see something that I’m too familiar with.
“Is that an Elder Scroll?” I point at the scroll at her back
“Yes it is” her tone turns grim all of a sudden “. And it’s mine”
I raise my hands in my defense “Hey, I don’t want it; had enough business with those scrolls as it is. My question is: why do you have it?”
She looks as if she’s struggling with what words to say “It’s... complicated. I can’t really talk about it, I’m sorry.”
I smile. “It’s okay, forget I asked”
As we start walking out of the cave, I ask her a lot of things. “So... care to tell me a bit more about this home of yours?”
“It’s on an island near Solitude. Hopefully, we can find a boat to take us there” then she adds “It’s my family’s home. Not the most welcoming place but depending on who’s around, I’ll be safe there”
“Why wouldn’t you be safe there?” I ask
She sighs “Let’s just say my mother and father had a bit of a falling out.” She smiled to me “Don’t worry, I’m not in danger or anything like that. It’ll just be more unpleasent to run into my father”
I change topics because I clearly see that this isn’t something she really wants to talk about. “So, about how long were you inside that stone thing?”
“Good question, hard to say really.” She frowns “I... I can’t really tell.” She stopts walking and asks me: “Who is Skyrim’s High King?”
I sigh. I should say Ulfric since I did help him overthrow the Empire and achieve Skyrim’s independence. “That’s actually a matter for debate.”
She rolls her eyes “Oh, wonderful. A war of succession. Good to know the world didn’t get boring while I was gone.” I chuckle “Who are the contenders?”
“The Empire supports Elisif but there are some in Skyrim who are loyal to Ulfric”
Her eyebrows knit in confusion. “Empire? What... what Empire?”
The confused face comes back to me “The... Empire. From Cyrodiil.”
“Cyrodiil is the seat of an Empire?” I nod “I must have been gone longer than I thought. Definetly longer than we planned”
“Ha! Maybe. Why were you imprisoned here in the first place by the way?”
She cringes. Definetly a touchy subject. “I’d... rather not get into that with you. If that’s all right” she sighs again “I’m sorry, it’s not that... it’s just that I don’t know who I can trust just yet. Let’s get to my home and I’ll have a better sense of where we all stand”
I nod and we head outside.
We have a long way ahead of us.
----(le timeskip)----
After days of travel, we finally arrrive to the place Serana mentioned.
Well, we are in front of it actually. We found a boat and I took us to the castle in the island west of Solitude.
As we step out of the boat and walk towards the castle a question comes to my mind.
“So, what should I do when you are talking to your dad?”
“Why do you think we need a plan?”
“Well, standing around and looking pretty is what I do best but I bet your dear father won’t like some stranger in his house just... standing around”
“Just... stay quiet and let me do the talking. Oh and I know your friends will probably want to kill every living thing in there. I was hoping you could show more restraint.”
“Enter inside a castle with a lot of vampires inside and attack them? Suure that sounds like a wonderful idea. Not suicidal at all!”
She rolls her eyes and ignores me as we approach the gate.
“Lady Serana is back” the gate guardian(or at least, I think he is) yells “Open the gates!”
The gates open and I step inside first. Everything looks grim inside here.
Not that I was expecting sunflowers and rainbows inside an ancient vampire’s house. Still, I could live without the death ambience inside this place.
Some High Elf vampire steps in front of me, pointing an accusing finger at me.
“How dare you tresspass here!”
My head turns to Serana “Might tell your little friend here that he shouldn’t point at strangers that get easily angry and have swords”
That caught the Altmer’s attention. He turns to look at Serana “Wait... Serana? Is that truly you? I cannot believe my eyes!”
He runs to the balcony and announces to the people there.
“My lord! Everyone! Serana has returned!”
We look at eachother and I think I can see a hint of nerves in her eyes.
We both go down the stairs and meet, presumably for his looks, Serana’s father.
He opens his arms as a welcome sign. “My long-lost daughter returs at last. I trust you have my Elder Scroll?”
Serana stops dead on her tracks, folding her arms in her chest “After all these years that’s the first thing you ask me?” she replies in a cold, hard tone “Yes, I have the Scroll.”
“Of course I am delighted to see you, my daughter. Must I really say the words aloud?” then he adds “Ah, if only your traitor mother were here, I would let her watch this reunion before putting her head on a spike.”
I feel really compelled to say something inside the lines of 'Well, nothing says ‘I love you’ like your spouse’s head on a spike.' but I keep it to myself so that they won't put my head on a spike.
His heads turns to face me “Now tell me who is this stranger you have brought into our hall?”
She looks at me “This is my savior, the one who freed me”
He smiles wickedly. “For my daughter’s safe return, you have my gratitude. Tell me, what is your name?”
“I am Kila. And you are...?”
“I am Harkon, lord of this court” his eyes turn colder “. By now, my daughter will have told you what we are.”
I nod “Yes, you are vampires”
“Not just vampires” he adds “. We are among the oldest and most powerful vampires in Skyrim. For centuries we lived here, far from the cares of the world. All that ended when my wife betrayed me and stole away which I valued most”
“Hey, do I get something in return for getting Serana back or what?”
He chuckles darkly “I was about to suggest that very thing. Yes, you most certainly deserve a reward” he looks more serious and adds “. There is but one gift I can give that is equal in value to the Elder Scroll and my daughter”
He makes the same arm gesture as before “I offer you my b
