Benefits of Energy Management
Energy management has significant potential to improve energy efficiency for a wide variety of industrial, but also commercial and institutional end users of energy. A good energy management system will address and overcome organizational and human barriers to energy efficiency and can instill a culture that values energy efficiency. Not only does this facilitate implementation of energy efficiency measures, but it provides better context to determine when and how to upgrade or replace energy-using technologies.
ISO 50001
A major tool that can facilitate adoption of energy management systems is the International Standards Organization’s (ISO) ISO 50001 Energy Management Standard. Based on broad applicability across national economic sectors, ISO 50001 could influence up to 60 percent of the world’s energy demand.
Alliance Promotion of ISO 50001
The Alliance focuses on promoting widespread adoption of ISO 50001 standard and related energy management tools. To help foster adoption of energy management systems in industry the Alliance analyzes the business and technical cases for ISO 50001 implementation and delivers insights to program developers, policy makers and industrial end users. Because a good energy management system can serve as a foundational element of a corporate sustainability program, understanding the value of ISO 50001 is critical to elicit widespread adoption not only within individual manufacturing plants, but also within industrial supply chains.
