3METHODS
Subjects
The study population included 100 patients who had been diagnosed by their treating physicians as having schizophrenic disorder who were hospitalized or followed up by the psychosis unit of the Psychiatry Department of the Ege University, Izmir, Turkey. Inclusion criteria were the diagnosis of schizophrenia according to DSM-IV, aged 18–65 years, giving informed consent, and patients who could be evaluated by research scales used in the study.28 Especially the Y-BOCS, as this is a rather complicated and time-consuming test. Exclusion criteria were learning disabilities, neurological or physical disease, and alcohol and/or substance abuse.
