Luma Curve and RGB Curves (Color Correction) -- These are my go-to effects for
tonality adjustments for both brightness/luminance and contrast. Luma Curve has
only a Luma Waveform graph. RGB Curves has the Luma Waveform along with
graphs for each color (RGB) channel. What this means though, is that if you use RGB
Curves to adjust color, you will also change tonality in the process. RGB Curves
works similarly to the color wheels in SpeedGrade in that adjusting color in
SpeedGrade also changes tonality.
If you use RGB Curves to adjust color, then it’s best to use it with the RGB Parade
scope rather than the Vectorscope.
Both curves-style effects have two limitations:
o there are no saturation controls
o curves properties are not keyframeable. If you want to change tonality
values over time, such as when adjusting a scene that goes from shade to
sunlight, you can use a copy of the clip and dissolve from one to the other
