CSAs can improve the health status of their members. One of the main
reasons why people join is to obtain fresh, local and seasonal produce without pesticide
residues (Henderson, 1999). Taking an active part in strengthening one’s community and
influencing the decisions that affect our lives also has the potential to increase our
happiness (Kahneman, Diener, and Schwarz, 1993). These contextual and institutional
determinants of well-being and their relation to CSA will be discussed in the following
two sections.
