Lesson VOC 72
Task: Clean a wall.
Prerequisites: ADT 17, ADT 64, ADT 125, COG 11, VOC 5
Concept: The concept in this sample lesson is very similar to the identified prerequisite of cleaning a shower or tub (ADT 125). The main differences are the size of the area to be cleaned and the use of a small stepladder. The student should be taught to not climb past the midpoint of the stepladder. Do not use a stepladder where the size of the ladder does not allow this safety issue to be addressed. Learning by imitating the instructor's action (see prerequisite COG 11) is the primary teaching technique.
Behavioral Objective: When directed by a "supervisor" to clean an identified wall, the student will gather the needed materials, clean the wall, and return the materials to their original location to a 90% accuracy level for 20 trials.
Materials: Washcloths, a bucket, cleaning solution, a faucet, and a stepladder.
Task Analysis:
1. Verbally guide the student to the location(s) where the necessary materials are stored. These items should include washcloths, cleaner, a bucket, and a stepladder.
2. Verbally cue the student to obtain warm water in a bucket. Demonstrate the process of adding a small amount of cleaner to the water.
3. Using motor-imitation skills, guide the student in the process of washing down the wall and rinsing the cloth out without the use of a stepladder.
4. Continue Step 3, adding the use of a stepladder. Maintain direct supervision during this step.
5. Combine the concepts of Steps 1 through 4 into one action and reduce prompting to a total-task verbal request.
6. Continue Step 5, adding the return of the materials to their original location.
