The proposed channel transporting the hydraulic sand-fill is modeled at the middle of the crest of the embankment. The depth of the channel is approximated to be about 3m and the hydraulic sand-fill is expected not to exceed a height of 2m at all times. From site inspection, it was considered that the toe failure was caused by rapid build up of pore water pressure within the em-bankment during hydraulic sand-filling. Therefore, proper drain-age is an important design consideration. In view of this, it is proposed that a highly permeable rock toe with an extended berm of 4m be constructed at the toe of the existing embankment. This design consideration is modelled in SEEP/W.
