We may be just a couple of weeks into the new year, but one thing we’re pretty sure of is that the white sneakers trend from last year isn’t going anywhere in 2016.
In the past few seasons, white sneakers, more specifically the white Adidas Stan Smiths, have been seen everywhere from the runways to celebrity street style.
According to a Footwear News report, the sneakers were also popular on the streets at Milan Men’s Fashion Week. The popularity of the trend can be attributed to the multi-step process and strategic plan to relaunch the white Adidas Stan Smiths, which actually included a plan to get celebrities to start wearing them. Among Hollywood’s “It girls” to sport the classic pair of white Adidas are models and pals Hailey Baldwin and Kendall Jenner, who have recently been spotted wearing a pair.
The popular fashion aesthetic “normcore,” as dubbed by New York Magazine nearly two years ago, has also appeared to help growing demand for the Stan Smiths. The white sneakers are the perfect addition to a fashion aesthetic that embraces a classic, inexpensive “ardently ordinary” style of clothing that gives a comfort-over-style type of vibe. The key outfit pieces of a normcore look mirror Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid’s street style, including light washed, loose jeans paired with crew neck sweatshirts and of course plain white Stan Smiths that are the foundation to the entire look.
If you don’t already have a pair of Stan Smiths in your shoe collection, we highly recommend scoring a pair for your spring wardrobe right away.
