3. Results and discussion
Abrasive-weeding was compatible with vegetable production in
plastic mulch. There was some initial concern that air-propelled
abrasive grits would shred the mulch or contribute to tears near
the planting hole that could reduce the weed suppressive potential
of the mulch. However, no physical damage to the mulch was
observed and the area of planting holes was not affected by grit
type (p ¼ 0.11) or application frequency (p ¼ 0.74) (data not shown).
