Tak-Mae Sot highway to be briefly closed every day
A section of the hilly Tak-Mae Sot highway will be closed for half an hour every morning for nine months from March 1 to allow blasting on the mountain to widen the road to four lanes.
Jongjit Tengya, director of the highways department in Tak, said that blasting on Doi Ruak mountain was scheduled from 9.30am to 10am every day from March 1 to Nov 30. It will affect a seven-kilometre-long section of Highway No.12 (Tak-Mae Sot), between the 65th and 72nd kilometre markers.
The work would widen the curvy highway from two lanes to four lanes. It was part of the east-west economic corridor project and would make the road safer to travel, Mr Jongjit said.
To avoid delays, motorists travelling from Muang Tak district to Mae Sot district should depart before 8am, and those going from Mae Sot to Muang Tak should depart before 7am.
